Polk County received the 16th seed in the 2A West bracket and will host Lexington in the first round of the state 2A boys soccer playoffs, according to official brackets released Monday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
The second seed from the Western Highlands Conference, Polk County (12-5-2) will host Lexington (7-11-5) in a match scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Polk County Middle School. A win there would likely send the Wolverines to face top-seeded Newton-Conover (20-1) in the second round. Newton-Conover hosts Madison (7-12-2) in its first-round match.
The WHC champion, Owen, is seeded 10th, while Hendersonville, which shared second place with Polk County but lost a tiebreaker, dropped to 25th.
