Polk takes care of Madison in regular-season home finale

A routine victory in the final regular-season home match – Polk County couldn’t have asked for much more Thursday.

The Wolverines scored three times in the first half and made that advantage hold, posting a 3-1 win over Madison in a Western Highlands Conference match at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The Wolverines improved to 6-2-1, 5-2 in WHC play with the victory. Polk County has two games remaining next week at Avery and needs to win just one of those to secure the WHC’s automatic 1A playoff berth. Polk also remains a game behind Owen in the overall conference race.

Madison dropped to 2-7, 1-7.

Jack Smith, Luke Becker and Harrison Ashworth all scored in a span of just over eight minutes midway through the first half to pur the Wolverines firmly in control of the match. Madison picked up a goal late in the half, but that would be it for the scoring for the evening.

Still missing injured starters Gaige Lewis and Elliott Whiteside, Polk County also played without Cole Pereira.
