Polk County racked up five first-half goals Wednesday en route to smashing Smoky Mountain 8-2 in a junior varsity boys soccer battle in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
The Wolverines (2-1-1) matched their highest-scoring game of the season to date just in the first half, building a 5-1 lead over the Mustangs at the break.
Erik Ramirez opened the scoring off a cross from Jasper Nespeca, with Ross Dow making it 2-0 shortly thereafter. Dow and Ramirez teamed to deliver the ball to Luke Garrison for the Wolverines’ third goal, and the Dow-Garrison connection worked again for the fourth strike as Dow played a through ball to Garrison, who hammered home a low drive.

Garrison then completed his hat trick, scoring off a pass from Oakley Whiteside.
Erik Pena tallied first in the second half for Polk, stealing a Smoky Mountain pass and finding the net, before Dow intercepted a Mustang pass in midfield, weaved through the Smoky defense and struck to put Polk up 7-2. Ramirez closed the scoring in the final seconds, lofting a long shot over the Smoky goalkeeper after taking a pass from Angel Vazquez.
Polk County is back in action on Thursday, hosting Madison at 5 p.m. for a non-conference battle.
