Avery County outscored Polk County 44-25 in the second half to pull away for an 81-53 victory in Tuesday’s Western Highlands Conference boys basketball game in Newland.
The Vikings (7-7, 1-4 WHC) led 38-27 at halftime and extended their advantage with a 24-14 third-quarter run.
Aaron Jackson led Polk County (3-11, 0-4 WHC) with 22 points. Khristian Littlejohn added 13, Nate Fagan scored seven, Blake Anderson finished with four, Ross Dow had three and Chase Stansbury and Nolan Simpson each added two.
