Polk County’s boys basketball team had a large problem Thursday. Actually, two large problems.
Chase’s combination of 6-10 senior Tyler Wilson and 6-7 freshman Addison Archer provided problems all night for the Wolverines in a 70-61 non-conference loss at Polk.
Wilson finished with 20 points and Archer had 18 for Chase head coach DeShea Briscoe, a Polk County High graduate and the brother of Polk assistant coach DeShane Briscoe. The Trojan towers also blocked numerous shots and affected others as Chase (1-2) earned its first win of the season.

Polk County also struggled with foul issues, as Dominique Carson, Tyler Staley and Keyandre Thomas each picked up two fouls in the first quarter.
Yet ,through all of that adversity, the Wolverines kept fighting and kept things close.
Chase built a 37-24 halftime lead, but Carson scored a pair of baskets to open the third period, then he and Staley hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the gap to 40-34 midway through the quarter. The Trojans pushed the lead back to eight, 51-43, entering the final period.
Polk rallied again in the fourth to make it 57-52 and had a 3-point shot to trim the margin even more, but that effort spun out, and Wilson followed with a dunk to up the lead to seven and help keep the Wolverines at bay.
Carson finished with 30 points, including a 14-of-16 effort at the foul line, and five rebounds to lead Polk County. Shaq Wingo had nine points and Staley finished with eight.
Wesley Royster had six points and Bryson Edwards and Brett Bagwell each scored four points and grabbed four rebounds.
The two teams are set to meet again on Monday at Chase.
