Polk County rallied in the fourth quarter, but still dropped a 48-38 decision Thursday to R-S Central in junior varsity basketball action at Polk.

The Wolverines dropped to 5-12, 2-7 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference games. R-S Central improved to 3-15.

How it happened: The Hilltoppers took command of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Polk 21-9 in the period to take a 40-21 lead entering the fourth quarter. R-S Central’s Cole Burch had eight of his 16 points in the third to spark the Hilltoppers.

Nolan Simpson and Khalil Watley led Polk’s late rally, though that comeback bid fell short.

Scoring: Watley finished with 16 points and Simpson had 14, nine of those in the fourth quarter, to lead the Wolverines.

Khristian Littlejohn scored five points, Karlen McEntyre added two and Lorenzo Sanchez had one.

Next up: Polk County will host Chase on Feb. 3 in the Wolverines’ final home game of the season.
