Polk Middle boys, girls begin basketball tourney play at home

Polk County Middle School’s boys and girls basketball squads will open play Monday at home in the Blue Ridge Middle School Conference tournament.

The Polk County boys will put their 12-0 record on the line against Madison. The fourth seed from the West Division, Madison enters with a 7-5 record and will be coming off a 53-31 loss to Canton.

Polk County, with a win, would face either Rugby (6-6) or Macon (9-3) in the semifinals. That game would be played Wednesday.

The Polk County girls finished the season tied with Rugby in the East Division and won a coin flip to become the East Division’s top seed. The Wolverines, 11-1, will open at home on Monday against Canton (4-8). Polk County defeated Canton 33-18 in the season opener.

If Polk County wins, the Wolverines would then face either Hendersonville (6-6) or Waynesville (10-2) in the semifinals. Both of Waynesville’s losses this season came to West Division champion Madison

The other girls bracket features two 11-1 teams in Rugby and Madison. Madison’s only loss this season was an overtime setback against Rugby.

Complete tourney pairings are below. The tournament championship games are scheduled for Thursday at a site to be determined.
