
Polk JVs rally past Hendersonville
Polk County’s junior varsity fashioned a second-half rally Tuesday and knocked off Hendersonville, 46-36, in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference encounter at Polk.
The Wolverines improved to 5-11 overall, 2-6 in league games. The Bearcats dropped to 6-12, 6-2.
How it happened: Hendersonville grabbed a 21-17 lead at halftime, but Polk opened the third period with a 9-0 run, keeping Hendersonville off the scoreboard until the final two minutes of the period and taking a 29-26 lead into the final quarter.
Polk then scored the first six points of the fourth quarter, building a 35-26 advantage. Hendersonville got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Scoring: Khalil Watley had seven points in the final quarter and finished with 18 to lead Polk. Lorenzo Sanchez added nine points and Khristian Littlejohn finished with eight. That trio teamed to hit six 3-pointers in the win.
Nolan Simpson added seven points, with Andrew Nance and Karlen McEntyre each scoring two.
Next up: Polk County will host R-S Central on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., that game rescheduled from its original Friday date.
