Polk County’s junior varsity had to work overtime Tuesday for its first win of the season.

Four overtimes, actually.

The Wolverines finally took command of their non-conference matchup with Brevard in the fourth extra session, pulling away for a 64-57 triumph in front of a large home crowd that became fully invested in the outcome.

Polk County (1-5) had chances to win the game earlier, but had a couple of last-second shots just fall awry. The Wolverines took no chances in the fourth three-minute period, with Keyan Simpson and Dre Thompson powering Polk to a lead that Brevard could not overcome.

Simpson finished with 22 points, with Thompson adding 12. Brennan Oates added 14 and RJ Simpson had 10, that quartet providing nearly all of Polk’s offense in the second half and extra sessions.

Jackson Blotner had four points and Tallis Metcalf and Matt Jarrett each added one.

Polk County will open Western Highlands Conference play on Friday at Owen.
