Led by Chase McMurray and Dustin Calvert, Polk County had five wrestlers place in the top four Friday in the Western Highlands Conference tournament at Owen.
McMurray placed second in the heavyweight class while Calvert finished second at 138.
Freshman Chase Emory finished third in the 126-pound class while Anthony Marino took third at 145. Damion Cantrell added a fourth-place finish at 170.

BASKETBALL
Polk County suffered a pair of losses at Avery, with the Polk girls dropping a 66-51 decision and the Wolverine boys a 73-50 setback.
In boys play, Avery raced to a 41-19 halftime lead. Polk rallied to within 15 at the end of the third period, but the Vikings (15-4, 7-0) kept the Wolverines in check and pulled away in the final period.
“Avery controlled the boards on offense and defense,” said Polk County head coach Josh McEntire. “On offense, we took too many quick and challenged shots.”
Anthony Carson led Polk County with 22 points. The Wolverines (5-11, 1-7) travel Monday to West Henderson.

In girls play, Avery County opened a 13-point lead at the end of the first period and slowly pulled away to hand Polk a 66-51 defeat.
The Vikings (15-4, 5-2) built a 55-28 lead at the end of the third period before Polk County rallied in the fourth.
Hayley Kropp scored 19 points to lead Polk County (8-8, 4-4). Lyric Flood added eight points and six rebounds while Sarah Phipps had seven points and 13 rebounds.
