Young Polk Middle golf team returns to action at Meadowbrook
After missing last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Polk County Middle’s golf team opened its 2021 schedule on Thursday with a dual match at Meadowbrook Golf Club.
The Wolverines posted a team total of 243, narrowly falling to Flat Rock’s 226.
Sixth grader Addie Buss led the Wolverines with a score of 55.
“I was really impressed with her poise today and her ability to consistently hit good shots while playing against Flat Rock’s top individual golfer,” said Polk Middle head coach Matthew Russell. “She parred her first hole and set the tone for a solid round.”
The remainder of Polk Middle’s team included David Amitrano (62), Brockton Davis (63) and Braedyn Davis (63).
“This year is a different look for us,” Russell said. “We’ve spent the last few seasons competing for and, in the case of the 2019 season, winning a conference championship. We have a young, hungry, if somewhat inexperienced group this year, but I see a lot of promise and potential in these kids.”
The Wolverines will return to action on Tuesday, competing against Flat Rock Middle and Hendersonville Middle at Hendersonville Country Club.
