Polk Middle golfers grab lead after first round of BRC tourney

Polk County Middle grabbed the lead Monday after the first round of the Blue Ridge Conference golf tournament, held at Maggie Valley Country Club.

The Wolverines posted a team score of 171 to lead Rugby Middle by five shots. Waynesville Middle followed with a 198, with Mason Middle at 216.

Evan Jones posted a nine-hole score of 41 to pace Polk Middle’s effort, with Casey Beiler shooting a 42. Avery Harden followed with a 43 despite breaking his driver on the opening hole while Reilly Yoder carded a 45 and Anthony Lancaster had a 59.

The final round of the tournament is set for Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m., at Hendersonville Country Club.
