
Polk golfers top conference field to open season
Polk County’s boys golf team delivered a solid season-opening performance on Monday, topping a field of Mountain Foothills 7 Conference schools at Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club in Rutherfordton.
The Wolverines posted a team score of 310, finishing 29 strokes ahead of Chase and 32 strokes ahead of Hendersonville.
Chase’s Brock Reid fired a 68 and teammate Garrett Pinkerton had a 72, but the next four individual leaders all came from Polk County. Evan Jones led the Wolverines with a 74, followed by Casey Beiler with a 76 and Reiily Yoder and Avery Harden each with 80s.
“We were prepared and focused and executed great golf shots,” said Polk County head coach Pat McCool. “We played very well today.”
Polk’s Myles Menetre carded an 88.
The Wolverines will travel to Maiden on Tuesday, facing the Blue Devils in a dual match at Glen Oaks Golf Club.
