Polk County’s boys golf team clinched the final qualifying spot for the state 1A tournament Monday, finishing third at the 1A West Regional held at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville.

The Wolverines posted a team score of 350, narrowly edging Mitchell (352) by just two strokes to secure their state tournament berth. Christ The King dominated the event with a 316, while Thomas Jefferson Classical placed second with a 346.

In a dramatic finish with Polk holding a slim three-shot advantage over Mitchell late in the competition, sophomore Tourin Jackson delivered under pressure, parring the final two holes to help preserve the Wolverines’ state qualification.
