
Overholt tied for 35th after first round of state 1A golf tourney
Polk County senior Dillon Overholt fired an 89 Monday in the opening round of the state 1A golf tournament at Foxfire Resort in Foxfire Village.
Overholt finished the opening round tied for 35th in the 83-player field. The tournament concludes Tuesday.
Lincoln Charter’s William Crook posted a 1-over par 73 to grab the lead, with Thomas Jefferson’s Pierce Robinson two shots back at 75 and Highland Tech’s Addison Beam in third at 77.
Overholt bounced back from a 47 on the opening nine holes to post a 42 on the back nine. He parred three straight holes, beginning with the par-5 ninth, and had six pars for the round.

Overholt is slated to tee off Tuesday at 9:48 a.m.
Community School of Davidson leads the team competition by two strokes over Lincoln Charter and 24 shots over Pine Lake Prep.
