
Emory’s 83 leads Wolverine golfers in season debut
Carson Emory fired an 83 Saturday to lead Polk County in its season-opening golf match at Grassy Creek Golf and Country Club in Spruce Pine.
Polk County finished with a team total of 344, 15 shots behind Mitchell. Avery and Owen also had golfers compete, but not enough for a full team.
On the girls side, Alana Jergenson was the lone Polk County golfer to compete, posting a total of 60 in the nine-hole match. Avery had the only full team competing, with golfers from Owen and Mountain Heritage also present.
Three other Polk golfers posted in the 80s for the Wolverine boys, with Reilly Yoder notching an 85, Evan Jones finishing with an 87 and Avery Harden recording an 89. Casey Beiler posted a score of 91 and Braxton Edwards recorded a 109.
Polk County and other Western Highlands Conference teams are slated to compete Monday at Meadowbrook Golf Course beginning at 1 p.m.
