Third-inning rally pushes Wolverines to third straight victory

Polk County Middle scored six runs in the third inning to take control and defeated Flat Rock Middle 10-3 in Monday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The victory marked the Wolverines’ third consecutive win.

Flat Rock took a 3-0 lead through two and a half innings before Polk County rallied in the third. Brantley Hall’s RBI single got the Wolverines on the board, and the rally continued when Callaway Cameron was hit by pitch and Wesley Turner followed with an RBI single to make it 3-2.

Cameron scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Oakley McDowell was hit by a pitch before Joshua Odel’s double drove in two more runs, and Jameson Clue reached on a dropped third strike that allowed another run to score, giving Polk County a 6-3 lead.

The Wolverines added four more runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Hall’s double drove in Carter Wood, Cameron singled home Hall, and Odel and Clue each singled to drive in runs.

Odel paced the offensive attack with a 3-for-3 performance that included a double, two runs and two RBI. Hall finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while Cameron went 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base. Clue added two hits, Turner contributed an RBI single and Wood went 2-for-4.

Wood started and pitched two innings, allowing two hits and two unearned runs with four strikeouts. Reece Turner earned the win in relief, tossing the final three innings, allowing one hit and one run with two walks and three strikeouts.

Polk County Middle (3-4) travels to Rugby Middle on Wednesday.

Flat Rock Middle fell to 1-3.
