Carter Wood scored the go-ahead run on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning as Polk County Middle edged Hendersonville Middle 6-5 in Monday’s Blue Ridge Conference baseball game at The Bottoms.
Wood singled to open the sixth and advanced to second when Joshua Odel followed with another single. With Wesley Turner at the plate, Wood advanced to third on a passed ball, then scored on a throwing error by the catcher to give Polk Middle the victory
Reece Turner earned the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing two hits and one run.

Polk Middle trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the third inning before rallying for five runs. Brantley Hall led off the inning with a double, and Callaway Cameron drove in the first run with a groundout. Oakley McDowell followed with an RBI single, then Carter Wood scored on a passed ball. Gunnar Price capped the rally with a two-run single.
Hendersonville Middle (4-6) pulled within 5-4 in the fifth inning and tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth before Wood’s go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.
Hall led Polk Middle at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double. McDowell finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, Turner went 1-for-4, Wood was 1-for-3 with two runs, Odel went 1-for-3, Price was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Wesley Turner finished 1-for-2.
Polk County Middle (5-8) closes the regular season Wednesday at Flat Rock.
