Polk County erupted for eight runs in the second inning Tuesday and went on to post an 11-1 over Avery in Western Highlands Conference action in Newland.

The Wolverines added two runs in the third inning and a single run in the seventh in snapping a six-game losing streak.

Polk County improved to 6-11 overall, 4-5 in WHC play. With Owen defeating Madison 3-2 on Tuesday, the WHC standings look like this:

Hendersonville has clinched the WHC regular season title and will be the conference’s top seed for the state 2A playoffs.
