Polk County junior Nick Capozzi has been named the Western Highlands Conference Baseball Player of the Year in voting done by the league’s coaches.

Polk County head coach Billy Alm, who guided the Wolverines to an 18-5 record and second straight WHC championship, earned coach of the year honors.

Capozzi hit .425 this season, driving in 36 runs with six doubles, two triples and six home runs. He also scored 34 runs. His two home runs and five RBI sparked Polk County’s playoff win over Pine Lake Prep.

Mitchell pitcher Zeus Ponder was named the conference’s top pitcher.

Six other Wolverines were named to the All-WHC squad. They included:

  • Senior infielder Evan Rimer
  • Junior outfielder Jordan Bishop
  • Junior outfielder Grayson Jones
  • Senior pitcher Avery Edwards
  • Senior outfielder Elijah Sutton
  • Senior catcher Sedrick Pickett
