Jerry Cox saw exactly what he wanted to see from his Polk County Middle wrestlers Monday afternoon.
When matches got tough and went into the third period, Polk Middle found ways to finish strong, defeating Brevard Middle 65-33 in a Blue Ridge Conference match that tested the Wolverines’ resolve.
The Wolverines (8-0, 4-0 BRC East Division) won 11 of 18 matches against the Blue Devils (2-3, 2-2), with several bouts decided in the final period.

“I’m really proud of our kids,” Cox said. “We faced a tough Brevard team tonight. It was good to see kids persevere and fight into the third period. That showed us what we’re getting good at and what we need to work on.”
Tiernan Hanna, Coalden Cehan, Jay Gosnell, Oakley McDowell, James Logan, Brycen Tuttle and Landon Plylar each earned pins for Polk County Middle. Rhys Jackson posted a technical fall over Mason Thompson at 120 pounds.
Eric Ramirez defeated Camdyn Gash 2-0 at 98 pounds while Boaz Wilson edged Trace Pack 4-3 at 126 pounds. Evan Taylor and Gabe Nelon won by forfeit.
Polk County Middle travels to Rugby Middle on Thursday. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
