Wolverines drop dual matches with Avery, Union (Va.)

Polk County dropped a pair of dual wrestling matches Tuesday against championship-caliber programs from two states.

The Wolverines traveled to Avery and fell 52-27 to the Vikings, defending state 1A champions, and 57-24 to Union, Va., perennially a Class 2 championship contender that finished sixth in the state last season.

Polk County is now 4-4 in dual matches this season. The Wolverines are next in action on Friday, beginning two days of competition at the Smoky Mountain Grapple at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville.
