Five Polk County wrestlers will begin their quest for a state title on Friday as the 2020 NCHSAA Individual Wrestling State Championships begin in Greensboro.
One round of wrestling is slated Friday for 1A competitors, that beginning at 12:30 p.m. The 1A semifinals are slated for Saturday at noon, with consolation rounds following at 2:15 and 4 p.m. The consolation finals are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m., with the championship round at 7:30 p.m.
All matches will be held at Greensboro Coliseum. Video coverage will be available online via the NFHS Network.

Polk County’s five state qualifiers are the most for the program in more than a decade.

Collier Foster, 36-18
Foster is the third seed from the 1A West bracket and will face Uwharrie Charter’s Gage Beal, the second seed from the East. Beal enters with a 52-3 record.

Satchel McCoy, 32-15
McCoy is the fourth seed from the West and will face East champion David Garcia of Granville Central. Garcia enters with a 19-6 record.

Preston Burnett, 42-10
Burnett is the second seed from the West and will meet East Carteret’s James Lawrence in the first round. Lawrence, the third seed from the East, has a 44-6 record.

Gage McSwain, 26-8
McSwain is the third seed from the West and will face Bishop McGuinness’ Daniel Cancro in the first round. Cancro is the second seed from the East and has a a 37-8 record.

Trey Thompson, 36-12
Thompson, the fourth seed in the West, will meet East champion Adrian Little of Albemarle in the first round. Little has a 28-4 record and finished second in last year’s state tournament.
