Waynesville Middle bests Polk Middle in battle of division leaders

Waynesville Middle won the battle of Blue Ridge Conference leaders on Thursday, defeating Polk County Middle 63-33 in a wrestling matchup at Polk.

The undefeated Mountaineers, leaders of the BRC West Division, handed East Division-leading Polk just its second loss of the season, the Wolverines now 7-2 for the year.

Waynesville’s ability to fill wrestlers in every weight class helped as Polk Middle forfeited four classes, accounting for 24 points.

The Wolverines will enjoy a well-earned holiday break before resuming their quest for an East Division title on Jan. 5 at Apple Valley.
