Polk County junior Jadyn Virgil will begin competition Thursday in the state 2A individual wrestling championships in Greensboro.
First-round action in the 2A state meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. in Greensboro Coliseum. Friday will feature quarterfinal matches as well as two consolation rounds, with the tournament concluding on Saturday.
Virgil, the 2A West Regional runner-up, will take his 43-9 record into a first-round 182-pound match against Bandys senior Camden Mongene, who placed third in the 2A Midwest Regional. Mongene enters with a 21-7 record.
The winner of that first-round match will face either Southwest Onslow’s Jason Rodriguez Jr., the 2A East champion at 39-2, or Bunn’s Dominic McDowell (10-6). The Virgil-Mongene loser will face the loser of the Rodriguez-McDowell match.
