Opponents have gotten used to early handshakes this season with Jadyn Virgil, who has been piling up first-period pins

Polk County senior wrestler Jadyn Virgil has verbally committed to continue his wrestling career at Montreat College.

Virgil owns a 32-3 record this season, with all three losses coming against North Henderson’s Reese Meadows, and won the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference championship at 215 pounds on Saturday. Virgil placed sixth at the 2023 state 2A wrestling tournament, just the 17th wrestler in school history to place in state competition.

He will become the second Polk County wrestler at Montreat; Bryson McCraw is currently a sophomore on the Cavaliers’ roster.
