Polk County Middle's wrestling team celebrates its third straight East Division title (photo courtesy PCMS Wrestling)

Thrice sounded so very nice Thursday for Polk County Middle’s wrestling team.

The Wolverines secured their third straight Blue Ridge Conference East Division championship with a 78-25 victory over Brevard Middle in Brevard.

It marks just the second time in school history that a team has won three straight division crowns, with Polk Middle’s girls basketball team the first to do so in 2010-12.

The Wolverines (12-0, 8-0) held just a 12-9 lead before Gavin Waldbillig’s pin at 106 pounds started a run of seven victories in eight weight classes. That streak locked up the match for Polk Middle, which also captured four of the five final matches.

With the win, the Wolverines also secured the right to host the Blue Ridge Conference Dual Team Tournament, set for Jan. 23. Polk Middle will face either Bethel Middle or Canton Middle, with Flat Rock to face the other.

Polk Middle returns home Tuesday to host Rugby Middle in the start of the final week of the regular season.
