Start of state dual team playoffs uncertain due to weather

1 min read

It’s wait and see time for the start of the state dual team wrestling playoffs.

The first round of the postseason was slated to begin Tuesday. But with many school districts across the state closed on Tuesday – and many of those districts having policies against athletic competition when school is not in session – there will be no first-round action on Tuesday.

The winter weather of the past weekend affected every region of the state, with many counties in the central and eastern regions of the state receiving snow and ice in addition to that which fell in Western North Carolina.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association executive committee met Monday afternoon and is slated to meet again Tuesday to address not only the state duals schedule, but also the plans for the girls individual regional tournaments and state swimming and diving championships.

Polk County was slated to host Surry Central in Tuesday’s 3A first round. Surry County is among those counties closed Tuesday and not allowing athletic teams to be in action.
