Rivera, McCraw break Polk single-season win record

Polk County’s wrestling program continues to rewrite the school record book.

Wrestlers Efrain Rivera and Zalen McCraw will each enter Saturday’s Mountain Foothills 7 Conference Tournament with a 48-2 record. Those 48 wins represent a new school record, topping the old mark of 47 set in the 2005-2006 season by Austin Ollis.

With this week’s tourney starting a busy postseason, the two should push their win totals much higher before season’s end. Head coach Thomas Hensley also said others on the Wolverine roster could surpass 47 wins before season’s end. Amon Villarreal is next on the team list with 43 wins.

In RankWrestlers’ latest ratings, Rivera is the state’s top-ranked 1A wrestler at 120 pounds, with McCraw ranked fourth at 175 pounds.
