Polk’s Settles part of history-making Women’s West Regional

Polk County wrestler Grace Settles played a role Thursday in a bit of state history.

Settles participated in the first NCHSAA Women’s West Regional wrestling tournament, held at North Henderson.

Women’s wrestling is set to become an officially sanctioned high school sport in North Carolina beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. The NCHSAA opted to offer regional tournaments this year as qualifers for the state tournament set for Feb. 3 in Advance.

Ssttles competed in the 107-pound division, falling in the first round to Aya Gross of Olympic.
