Polk County’s bid for a 2A wrestling dual team playoff berth took a hit Thursday with a 41-33 loss to Western Highlands Conference foe Madison.

Now 1-4 in conference matches, Polk County closes its conference and home schedule Friday night, hosting Mountain Heritage in a 6 p.m. match.

Chase Emory, Damion Cantrell and Chase McMurray each recorded pins for the Wolverines, who will close their regular season on Tuesday at East Henderson with a tri-match with East Henderson and Brevard. The Wolverines will then compete in the WHC tournament on January 31.
