Polk wrestlers shine at Hebbard Invitational

Polk County had a pair of wrestlers deliver top-four performances Saturday at the 26th Annual Leigh Hebbard Invitational tournament at Southeast Guilford High School.

John Wright earned a third-place finish at 182 pounds and Bryson McCraw placed fourth at 152 pounds while competing against a field largely full of athletes from 3A and 4A schools.

Polk’s Collier Foster and Deaken Nodine each had close losses in their final matches to just miss also placing in the top four in their weight classes.

Trinity won the team title at the tourney, with Morehead and Southeast Guilford rounding out the top three. Polk County placed ninth in the team race.

The Wolverines kick off 2022 action on Tuesday, taking part in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference tri-match at Patton against the host Panthers and Brevard.
