Polk County wrestlers will shift their focus Friday to individual success, competing in the 3A West Regional at West Lincoln High School.
Thirteen Wolverines will begin competition in the two-day event with the goal of finishing in the top four of their weight class and earning a trip to next week’s state championship tourney in Greensboro.
Polk junior Styler Blackwell, a 1A West Regional champion last season, received the top seed in the 190-pound weight class with a 41-7 record. Blackwell will face West Davidson’s Drake Richardson to open his tournament.

Polk’s Zalen McCraw enters the 165-pound weight class with a 46-1 record and is the second seed. Lincolnton’s Jay Mills, at 42-1, is the top seed in the class. McCraw will face North Wilkes’ Noah Osborne in his opener.
Amon Villarreal garnered the third seed in the 132-pound division and will face East Davidson’s John Lewis in his first-round match. Brody Wolfe is the fourth seed at 150 and will open against East Rutherford’s Thailand Turner.
