Polk County’s first day of wrestling at the Carolina Clash Super Duals felt pretty super.
The Wolverines picked up four team wins for the day in pool matches, sending the team on a high entering Saturday’s second day of competition at the Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Polk downed a pair of 3A schools to open the day, defeating Smoky Mountain 53-27 and Jesse Carson 51-26. The Wolverines then knocked off an outstate oppponent, defeating Wewahitchka (Fla.) 48-32. Polk also received a forfeit win over High Point Academy of Spartanburg as the team missed the opening day of competition due to attending a funeral for the family member of an athlete.

Saturday’s action will begin at 10 a.m. Polk already has a forfeit win over Madison in hand, and the Wolverines will wrestle Tuscols and Gaffney (S.C.) in looking to boost its record before the start of the placement round.
Efrain Rivera, Jaxtyn Virgil and Conner Ahlert each scored three wins during the opening day for Polk County.
Polk County also had several wrestlers compete in the Carolina Clash JV Invitational. Polk’s Rocco Quoyle won the 132-pound division and Danny Bradley took top honors at 165 pounds to lead the Wolverines. Polk also got a second-place effort from Acer eadus and third-place showings from Kaleb Burnette and Landin Pollard.
More than 20 teams are competing in the two-day event.
