Polk Middle’s Pearson repeats as BRC wrestling champion
Polk County Middle’s Topher Pearson is, once again, a Blue Ridge Conference wrestling champion.
Pearson earned his second straight BRC championship on Saturday, winning the 100-pound division at the conference tournament held at Pisgah High School in Canton.
Pearson pinned Canton Middle School’s Jonathan Chapman in the championship match after earning a hard-fought 4-1 win over Apple Valley’s Seth Eden in the semifinals.
Polk Middle placed sixth in the tournament team standings as five wrestlers reached the championship round. Joining Pearson in the finals were Jacob Ed, John Wright, Luke Miller and Conner Davis.
Polk’s Kole Powell and Charlie Jackson each reached the consolation finals and finished fourth.
The seven wrestlers placing in the top four or higher are a record for the PCMS wrestling program as are the 15 wrestlers who qualified for the tournament.
Apple Valley won the team title, finishing with 207.5 points to Brevard Middle’s 194. Flat Rock had 146 points, with Bethel at 116.5, Smoky Mountain Middle at 112 and Polk Middle at 111.
