Polk Middle wrestlers upend Apple Valley in season opener
Polk County Middle made the most Tuesday of the opening match of its delayed 2020 wrestling season.
The Wolverines defeated perennial Blue Ridge Conference power Apple Valley, handing the Knights a 54-49 defeat at Polk Middle.
Polk Middle won five matches on the mat and received four forfeit wins. All proved vital as the Wolverines eked out the win over the defending BRC champions.
Perhaps the match of the day came at 134 pounds, where Polk sixth grader Styler Blackwell pinned his opponent just before the final buzzer sounded to end the match.
Also earning wins on the mat were Shatter Johnson, Jacob Ed, Spencer Bishop and Colt Love.
Polk Middle returns to the mat on Thursday, traveling to Hendersonville Middle for another BRC match.
