Polk County Middle School’s wrestling team opened its season with a pair of victories Thursday at R-S Central Middle School, defeating the host Hilltoppers 76-30 and downing Crest Middle 84-24.
The Wolverines won 13 of 18 matches against R-S Central and 14 of 18 against Crest to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Ellis Searcy, Tiernan Hanna, Eric Ramirez, Alec Fine, Coalden Cehan, Rhys Jackson, Jay Gosnell, Isaac Whitley, James Logan, Brycen Tuttle, Michael Jenkinson, Gabe Nelon and Landon Plylar each recorded two pins on the afternoon for Polk County Middle.

Gosnell posted an 8-0 major decision over R-S Central’s T. Gibson at 132 pounds in the opener. Evan Taylor and Oakley McDowell each earned a pin in the Wolverines’ second match after falling in the first.
Polk County Middle head coach Jerry Cox said the team’s diverse makeup has contributed to its early success.
“I’m really enjoying the different origins of our talent,” Cox said. “We have some kids that are coming back after a good season last year that have to step up as leaders, we’ve got transfers coming in, we have sixth graders that have to immediately go out and deliver and we have kids like Alec Fine that have sat for two years that are now in the driver’s seat.”
Polk County Middle will host Canton Middle on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
