Polk County Middle’s Charles Jackson

Polk Middle wrestlers nearly topple defending BRC champs

The defending Blue Ridge Conference wrestling champions received a scare Thursday from Polk County Middle.

Flat Rock hung on to hand the Wolverines a 57-45 setback in a BRC match at Flat Rock.

Coming off its first win over a Henderson County school in six years, Polk Middle nearly recorded another. The Wolverines were dominant in the upper weights as John Wright, Charles Jackson, Kole Powell, Luke Miller and Conner Davis each won their matches by pins.

Perhaps the best match of the day came at 120 pounds, where Polk Middle’s Jacob Ed fell behind 8-0, but rallied to within 9-8 before losing the decision.

The Wolverines are back in action on Monday, traveling to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. match.
