Polk County Middle head wrestling coach Jason Flynn got exactly the effort he hoped for in the Wolverines’ first match on Tuesday.

Especially given it was the first time the entire team had ever taken part in a match.

Polk Middle dropped a 66-36 decision to Canton Middle in its home and regular season opener in Blue Ridge Middle School Conference action.

Five Wolverines won their matches by pin.

“It was a great effort by all,” Flynn said. “Coach Bailey and I could not have asked for a better effort. We had some wrestlers that were successful in their matches and won. We also had some matches slip away. We were aggressive and competitive.

“We have a ton of work to do and looking forward to it.”

Angus Weaver (120), Brady Hall (145), Hunter Moore (160), Kaleb Johnson (170) and Austin Waters (250) each won their match by fall for Polk. Kaden Jobe (132) also picked up a win by forfeit.

In preliminary matches, Cameron Mills-Shaw and Bryson McCraw were winners.

Polk Middle is back at home on Thursday, hosting Brevard for a 4:30 p.m. match.
