Polk Middle’s wrestling team returned to the road Thursday and scored a 64-41 victory at Brevard Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference match.
The Wolverines (7-0) won six straight matches from 90 to 126 pounds to take command of the match. That included a 20-7 major decision for Oakley McDowell at 113 pounds, a match that head coach Jerry Cox noted as being key to the win.
“We’ve seen a lot of improvements out of our first-year wrestlers like James Logan and Oakley McDowell,” Cox said. “We probably wrestled our best match yet as a team.”

Polk Middle will host Flat Rock Middle on Monday at 4:30 p.m. before closing its pre-holiday schedule on Thursday with a home match against Hendersonville Middle. Those two teams are both tied for second place in the BRC’s East Division, each a match behind the Wolverines.
