Polk Middle takes down Apple Valley for road triumph

Polk County Middle wrestling extended its win streak to six matches Tuesday with a 77-30 victory over Apple Valley Middle in Blue Ridge Conference action in Hendersonville.

Polk Middle opened strong in the lower weights as Ellis Searcy (76), Evan Taylor (83) and Tiernan Hanna (90) each recorded pins. Eric Ramirez added a technical fall at 98 pounds, defeating E. Whittaker 20-3.

Apple Valley responded with three consecutive victories in the middle weights, but the Wolverines regained momentum behind Jay Gosnell (132), Oakley McDowell (138) and Trenholm McMinn (144), who all won by pin.

Apple Valley claimed two of the final three contested matches as R. Hickey (165) and B. Russell (175) earned pins. Michael Jenkinson answered for Polk County with a pin at 190 pounds before Gabe Nelon (215) and Landon Plylar (250) closed the dual with forfeit victories.

“We wrestled really well. Looked sharp,” said Polk County head coach Jerry Cox. “Due to some sickness and injuries here and there, I think this is our sixth dual and our sixth different lineup. Happy to see that multiple kids are getting to contribute.”

The victory improved Polk County’s dual meet record to 6-0 while Apple Valley dropped to 0-4.

Polk Middle returns to action Thursday when they host Flat Rock Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference dual meet.
