Polk Middle's Acer Eadus and the Wolverines are nearing a third straight division title after Monday's win

Polk County Middle took a large step Monday toward a third straight Blue Ridge Conference East Division wrestling title.

The Wolverines scored a 67-30 victory at Flat Rock, racing to a 27-0 lead, then winning five straight matches in the middle weights to assure the team win.

That triumph lifted Polk Middle’s overall record to 11-0, including a 7-0 East Division record. The Wolverines hold a two-match lead over second-place Flat Rock with three matches remaining and, having swept the Eagles this season, can clinch at least a tie for the division title plus secure the East’s top postseason seed with one more win.

Polk Middle travels Thursday to Brevard Middle and will look to become just the second team in school history to win three straight division titles. Polk’s girls basketball team won division crowns in 2010-11-12.
