Polk County Middle School’s wrestling team wrapped up the first half of its Blue Ridge Conference East Division schedule with a dominant performance, defeating Rugby Middle 81-24 on Thursday in Mills River.
The Wolverines (9-0, 5-0 BRC East Division) won 14 of 18 matches and hold a one-match lead over Flat Rock and at least three-match advantage over all other schools in the division standings.
“It geels good to sweep the first half of the division schedule and put ourselves in the driver’s seat moving forward,” said Polk Middle head coach Jerry Cox.

Malachi Amorelli, Evan Taylor, Josh Odel, Coalden Cehan, Rhys Jackson, Boaz Wilson, JJ Klimstra, Oakley McDowell, Isaac Whitley, James Logan, Michael Jenkinson and Gabe Nelon each earned pins for Polk County Middle. Eric Ramirez posted a major decision over Rayghlin Lecker at 98 pounds while Jax Gosnell recorded a technical fall over Silas Morris at 132 pounds.
Rugby Middle fell to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in division play.
Polk County Middle begins the second half of its conference schedule Monday, hosting Apple Valley Middle at 4:30 p.m.
