Polk County wrestlers win two of three at East Henderson tourney

Polk County notched a 2-1 record Saturday at the WarEagle Duals wrestling tournament at East Henderson, suffering only a narrow loss to the home Eagles.

The Wolverines (7-6) defeated Cherokee 48-21 and Landrum 48-24. Polk County dropped a 40-33 decision to East Henderson for its lone loss of the day.

Polk County wrestled without a handful of starters sidelined with injury or sickness.

Freshman Triston Watkins posted a 3-0 record on the day at 106 pounds, winning two matches by pin and one via forfeit. Another freshman, Devin Panchyshyn, also wrestled without a loss, winning all three of his matches via pin.

The Wolverines are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Shelby and Smoky Mountain in a tri-match beginning at 5 p.m.
