The 1A Dual Team West Regional wrestling champion will be decided in Polk County’s gym.

The four teams remaining in the West bracket – Mount Airy, Robbinsville, Bradford Prep and Polk County – will gather Wednesday in the Wolverines’ gym to determine who will advance to Saturday’s state championship match. Start time is tentatively set for 6 p.m. but will be officially announced at some point Monday.

Polk County was chosen to host the third and fourth-round matches as a central geographic location for the four teams.

Mount Airy enters as the top seed in the 1A West field and will wrestling fourth-seeded Bradford Prep while Polk County, the sixth seed, faces second-seeded Robbinsville. The two winners will then meet to determine the regional champion and state finalist.

The Wolverines’ current success represents their deepest playoff since 2009, when Polk won its first two matches in an eight-team West bracket to reach the regional final, where the Wolverines fell to West Wilkes.
