The North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted Thursday to approve a revised schedule for the 2026 Wrestling Dual Team State Playoffs following multiple weather-related disruptions across the state.
Unprecedented winter weather conditions impacted all 100 counties in North Carolina, forcing the NCHSAA to adjust the playoff calendar twice in recent weeks. While every effort was made to complete the dual team championships within the originally scheduled timeframe, continued safety concerns and logistical challenges made that plan unworkable.
After reviewing feedback from member schools and the North Carolina Wrestling Coaches Board, the NCHSAA Board of Directors approved a revised format designed to prioritize student-athlete safety, competitive fairness and logistical feasibility.

Approved Wrestling Dual Team Playoff Schedule
- February 10–12: First and Second Rounds (hosted by the higher seed)
- February 16–17: Quarterfinals, Semifinals and State Finals
- Eight remaining teams in each classification will compete at a centrally located site not hosting basketball events.
Polk County is slated to host Surry Central on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the opening round of the 3A playoffs. The winner of the match will then wrestle in the second round immediately following.
This format eliminates Sunday competition, reduces the number of weigh-ins for participating student-athletes and minimizes travel and financial burdens for schools. Additionally, it allows teams advancing to the final rounds an appropriate preparation time ahead of the Individual Wrestling State Championships.
