1 min read

Four years of work came down to a single pin Saturday afternoon for Polk County’s Zalen McCraw.

The Wolverine senior equalled the school record for career wins with his third victory of the day at the John Clark Memorial Duals at Madison High School, matching the mark of 164 wins set by Austin Ollis nearly two decades ago.

McCraw went 3-1 on the day, with his lone loss coming against West-Oak’s Sy Strobel, who earned All-American honors last year at the National High School Coaches Association High School Nationals. Strobel is undefeated this season.

The defeat was McCraw’s first of the year, dropping his season record to 41-1. He earned a win by forfeit and recorded pins over Mitchell’s Jayceemae Erwin and Franklin’s Nathan Morrow to reach the milestone.

Ollis, who finished 164-11 in his career, set the record from 2003-2007, and it has stood for 18 years.

Polk County returns to action Tuesday in a Western Highlands Conference quad match at Hendersonville.
