Polk County Middle remained unbeaten Monday in the most dramatic of manners.
The Wolverines got wins in the final two matches of their Blue Ridge Conference clash at Apple Valley, with pins by Landon Plylar and Hudson Hyde lifting Polk Middle to a 54-48 triumph.
Polk improved to 6-0 on the season and extended its winning streak to 38 matches by the closest of margins.

The Wolverines raced to a 26-0 lead with two forfeits, Ethan Dotson’s major decision at 83 pounds and technical falls from Silas Amorelli and Rhys Jackson. The Knights closed to within 26-12 before Gavin Waldbillg’s major decision at 126 pounds upped Polk’s advantage to 30-12.
But Apple Valley used forfeits at 165 and 175 pounds and a win at 190 pounds to take a 48-42 lead.
Plylar grabbed a 3-0 lead in his match at 215 pounds before recording a second-period fall to even the team score. Hyde then secured the win for Polk Middle with a fall in the opening period.
“It felt really good to get in a close battle and our kids responded well to it,” said Polk Middle head coach Jerry Cox.
Another tough test awaits the Wolverines on Thursday as Polk Middle travels to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. match.
