High Five: Polk Middle continues East Division dominance

The dynasty continues.

Polk County Middle clinched its fifth consecutive Blue Ridge Conference East Division championship with a 69-29 victory over Flat Rock Middle on Monday, extending a run of dominance that has defined the program for half a decade.

The match was close early, with Polk Middle holding just a 26-24 lead after the bout at 175 pounds. But the Wolverines (12-0) seized control by sweeping the upper weights and winning eight of the final nine matches to pull away decisively.

Michael Jenkinson, Landon Plylar, Gabe Nelon, Ellis Searcy, Evan Taylor, Eric Ramirez, Josh Odel and Coalden Cehan combined for six pins, one technical fall and one decision during the closing stretch to secure both the match and the division title.

Polk County Middle also earned the right to host the Blue Ridge Conference Dual Team Tournament with the win.

The Wolverines won 12 of 18 matches overall. Ellis Searcy, Jax Gosnell, Oakley McDowell, James Logan, Michael Jenkinson, Landon Plylar, Gabe Nelon, Eric Ramirez and Josh Odel each earned pins. Boaz Wilson and Evan Taylor won by technical fall, and Rhys Jackson and Coalden Cehan each claimed decisions.

The fifth consecutive division title extends Polk County Middle’s school record for consecutive championships.

Flat Rock Middle fell to 7-3.

Polk County Middle hosts Rugby Middle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
