Polk County’s Preston Burnett and Trey Thompson each earned top-four finishes Saturday at the Royal Viking Classic wrestling tournament at North Wilkes.
Burnett finished in a tie for third at 126 pounds and Thompson placed fourth at 195 to lead the Wolverines to a 10th-place finish in the 13-team field. Burnett earned a tie as North Wilkes’ Cody Billings couldn’t wrestle the consolation final after reaching the maximum number of matches allowed in a day.
Polk County’s Bryson McCraw and Jacob Knighton each won two matches during the day.

Polk County is slated to return to the mat on Thursday, wrestling Mitchell in a match to be held at Gardner-Webb University. Start time is 5 p.m.
